Barley Community Garden is a volunteer led garden project based in the village of Barley, North Hertfordshire on land kindly offered by Manor Farms. It welcomes residents from the local community to come together in the shared endeavour of gardening to enhance physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

Our garden policy

At Barley Community Garden, we are committed to creating a sustainable and thriving community space that promotes positive gardening techniques.

Environmental

Organic: We use organic gardening methods, avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilisers to protect soil health, local wildlife, and the broader ecosystem.
Water Conservation: We aim to minimise water usage and promote efficient water management by mulching, planting trees for shade and using drought tolerant plants where possible.
Soil Health: We enhance soil fertility through organic composting, crop rotation, and cover cropping, ensuring the long-term productivity and sustainability of our garden beds.
Biodiversity: Our garden supports biodiversity by growing a wide variety of plants, including native species and pollinator-friendly flowers, to create a balanced and resilient ecosystem.
