Barley Community Garden is a beautiful green space located in the heart of Barley, North Herts. Come and join us for a gardening session led by our experienced gardening Chair, Rebecca Wild. No experience necessary, but you do need to sign up and become a member to make sure we are insured to have you with us.

How can you get involved?

Garden with us
Everyone is welcome. From those that want to garden weekly, to those that want to come once in while. It doesn't matter if you've never picked up a trowel before, the sessions will have an experienced volunteer leading them.

Come to an event
From time to time we'll hold talks, open gardening sessions and other fun things we can think of. Keep an eye on our blog, join our Facebook or Instagram pages or sign up to our newsletter.

Donate
We are 100% volunteer led and rely on donations from our wonderful community to run the garden. If you'd like to contribute something financially you can do so via our Just Giving page.

Opening Hours
General public
The garden is open to the public at all times.
Pop along anytime if you'd like to have a look and enjoy the progress we're making (and we'd love you to!), Access is via the Plaistow. Please remember to close the gate behind you.
Open gardening sessions
From time to time we invite the community to come and garden in open sessions, led by one of our members.
Dates will be published on our Facebook page, Instagram account and via the
Blog on this website.
Member gardening sessions
Gardening sessions will run on a Thursday afternoon from
2 to 4 pm.

Where is the garden?The garden is located in Barley Hertfordshire between The Plaistow and Kind Edgar Yard. There is no access to the garden via King Edgar Yard, itself. This is a private road and we do not have right of access over it for those visiting the garden for any purpose. Thank you for helping us be good neighbours.

Can I go and garden whenever I want to?No, the garden is run by a dedicated group of volunteers and designed for the community to be managed in organised group gardening sessions. Please contact us if you would like to join an organised session.

Why do I have to become a member to garden?To comply with the many regulations that are in place to govern community projects such as these, we need basic information about you. This is to ensure your safety and that of other users, comply with our insurance (which covers accidents to the site, as well as the people volunteering in it) and make sure we are working inline with the legal agreement we have in place with Manor Farms to use the land.

Can I just go and visit the gardenYes. The garden is open to the public and the gate is never locked. Please remember to close the gate behind you and leave the garden as you found it. 😊
Plan Your Visit
Access to the garden is by foot using the yellow highlighted footpaths only. There is no access via King Edgar Yard (this is a privately owned drive).
